Show PASSED AWAY death of mrs rs E H ja cannon of salt lake city we have several times of late informed the readers of thell ERALI of the serious illness of mrs elizabeth if cannon wife of lion ilon GeorgeQ george Q cannon it is with deep regret that we now announce the demise of that estimable lady sho she died at salt lake city at five minutes before eleven last night ara mra cannons health had bad been failing for two years past but during her sickness she bore her sufferings with great fortitude she was a lady of great strength of mind and force of character and was devotedly attached to the cause i of god and to her husband but fondly as she loved him A aiho a preferred to sacrifice the tender attentions and consolations prom prompted ted by a husbands affection in the hour of her demise than that lie should leave the post of his present duties and return to her bedside at her dicta dictation thonon on monday last the following was sent to mr cannon in washington remain at your po post pot t god can raise me up if it is his ills will in answer to your prayers there as well as isyou if you were here all is being done for me that can be done from the salt lake herald of this morning we glean the fol following lowin items in relation to the dece deceased lady elizabeth 11 eagland cannon was the daughter of abraham and margaret quick hoagland born nov 1835 in the town of rova royal I oak oakland county being aged 46 years months and 22 days her ifer parents ar ants embraced the church of jesus krist christ of latter day saints in her childhood and went to nauvoo from which place they emigrated during the general exodus odthe of the church in 1840 1846 they passed the follo fol w I ing winter at winter quarters an and d readied reached the salt lake valley with president john taylora taylors company in the month of october tober 1847 1947 mrs cannon was married to the lion ilon george Q can nonon th the e bilth of decem december br 1854 and in the spring of the following year yra accompanied her husband on a mission to california while there she buried her ber oldest child georgo george Q cannon Canno nand and passed ahr through uli many hardships returning to utah in the fall of 1857 she went south at sit the tile time of the move and in the tile fall fal I of I 60 accompanied her hug lius band on a amisson misson to england Ln gland leaving lier ber two sons john Q and abram 11 II C cannon annon at homo home she sho remained away until the tile fall of on the wa way y homo hom mrs cannon lost her little girl anthe on the plains and brought the remains to thia this valley and boon soon after was bereft ofa of a little boy these two children having been born during dur ingher her absence in E england she returned from froin both the missions ment mentioned ionea alone mrs cannon has accompanied her husband to three times during his ilia slie she iii aps a had eleven children six of whom are now living john Q cannon her eldest is now upon a mission to england englund and abram II 11 I is in germany the latter has not soon liis his mother for nearly three years the former left for his held field of labor in august last mrs elizabeth 11 II cannon was very widely known and much esteemed and while her demise will bo be sincerely regretted lier her name will be embalmed embalm ed in the memory of thousands who will call her blessed blea ed we are unable to state when the funeral will take place A dispatch lias has been sent to prest cannon advising him of the demise of liia his wife and the obsequies will be deferred until he lie is heard from on tho the subject |
