| Show FARMERS CLUBS agriculture is the most ancient as it is certainly one of the mos most honorable pursuit sin which mai mail can engage we read in holy writ that god made the heaven heavens and the earth when he had bad finished that part of his labor ile H looked upon it and pronounced ii it good but his labor was nol not completed for there was not a man to till the ground so after he had made man mail he ile placed him in the garden what for to dress it and keep it he ile told him to subdue and have dominion over the earth thus the study of agriculture commenced with the first man on oil earth all of adams race are still dependent on this noble science for the bread they cat and which they surely earn by tho the sweat of their brow agriculture supplies the material support to those who are engaged in any indeed all other pursuits and hence is the foundation of the growth and prosperity of all com bunitis mu nitis of nations of empires but for it the nations would soon expire and the human race become extinct now when a man engages in any profession lie desires to become p proficient proficient in it tho the more knowledge he acquires in his prof profession tile more useful and beneficial he will be to his fellow men the more fully the farmer becomes acquainted with the nature of the soil its qualities strength its adaptability v to produce the various kinds of grain vegetables or fruits the more capable he lie will be to cultivate his land intelligently and advantageously to himself but how is ho lie to acquire that knowledge if he is located in an isolated place far from friends or neighbors he can learn considerable provided te is a man of studious habits babits by study and experimenting but he can acquire a much greater amount of intelligence on these important matters by association and in mutual interchange of thoughts and eap exp experiences erien ces with neighbors who are engage engaged d in like pursuits friendly intercourse with ones fellow beings lightens toil and educates the intellect act the result of such sif they be wisely conducted could not be e other than productive of much good now as the winter is drawing n nigh ibi the days are shortening the nights are lengthening and outdoor pursuits on the farm and in in the garden will soon become more moro or less impracticable ble we would recommend to our granger friends the propriety of organizing farmers clubs with a view to obtain and disseminate useful knowledge and practical information on agriculture stock raising fruit culture special crops of any kind domestic economy improved methods of cultivation the most effectual means of exterminating weeds the treatment of sick cattle the most economical method of fatten fattening ilig beef pork etc of canning fruit for exportation another object of these organizations should be to secure concert of action to 10 guard the interests of all to collect statistical information concerning the annual aggregate product of the wheat raising sections in the united states State sand and in other countries the probable amount that may be needed for consumption abroad to enhance the value and increase tha the productions of each section of this territory and to combine their efforts to act promptly and to protect the interests of all w when hen they may be threatened by greedy grain speculators such institutions as the above named exist in many parts of the union east and west and they are doing good service to the f farming community we shall be pleased to leam learn that ere long such associations will be organized in every ward wardin in this county and wo we shall take pleasure in publishing pro bono publico all valuable information on the above named subjects which haa has been do rived from the practical experience of any of our granger friends who will be the first |
