Show from fridays Frida yf daily aej that rus yesterday we gave an account from the of a fuss that was alleged to have taken place between U S marshal and mr K C chambers in justice to all parties we give the following farther particulars etc which we clip from the same paper of this rooming mr chambers left for san francisco on wednesday afternoon but as our readers are already aware ho refused to say anything concerning the occurrence or its causes col who went to the park on wednesday mornine returned to this city last evening he denies hat tho report of the unpleasant affair as published in these column is trae and has done him an injustice in placing him in an unnecessarily harsh light it certainly was not the intention of this pi per to deal otherwise than justly and in fairness with col shaugh nessy all we wanted or now want are the facts and those are what wo have to obtain but like all the persona who can give them the marshal declines to do so it will bo remembered that the did not vouch or its story as authentic though giving it as the facts as near as can be aa pertained erta ined the late hour in the afternoon at which col went to the ontario office has been commented upon unfavorably to the marshal as indicating ha intended to find chambers alone after the clerks had retired it is but justice to col S to say that he denies any such purpose and bays he knew nothing about the office hours lie had been looking to chambers and learning from mr cody that he chambers was in the office immediately went there inviting hia friend cody o go with him although the latter knew nothing of the nature of the visit if the newspapers have failed to ct all the truth concerning this matter which haa created such a sensation in this city it is certainly through no fault of the reporters n whose way bars and stumbling clocks have been placed at every turn it is also a little irregular bat nothing has been done officially concerning the affair it now looks as if the unquestioned truth were not to be arrived at until il shall be called out by a legal investigation and if that investigation be not made newspapers and the public will have to content themselves with such scraps of indefinite information as can bo picked upon the streets |
