Show THE WIGHT MURDER few in clegard lo 10 cililo case the verdict of in the caso f for the shooting of daniel wight on the of last november haa already been given to the public and as is well jay of sentence lias been set for monday next for the benefit of those of our readers who did not attend the trial we give a review of the affair us brought out in the evi dence of the witnesses who testified this in substance coincided with our report of this sad affair as published the day after it occurred on the day after the murder the deceased in company with a male friend started from brigham city to corinne for the purpose of over from the latter place a couple of young ladies one of whom was annie bywater on the road over they were joined by bailey who was on horseback horse back they arrived in corinne and while there bailey and wight engaged in a game jol billiard and drank freely of liquor wight and hia then started back for brigham city ai by the two young ladies bailey also accompanied them on horseback horse back when nearly home a dispute between bailey and wight which ended in bailey dismounting wight alighting from the wagon in which be wa riding and a rough and tumble encounter was engaged in between the two highl proved to bo physically superior to his companion hoj kling him against the wagon and it is alleged biting bailey through the lip and cheek bailey it is said called upon him to desist and then draw ing a revolver fired three times all three taking effect but the one which struck wight in the side proved the death shot the deceased was placed in his agon and driven home where he died a few hours after bailey followed the party into brigham city and upon his arrival gave himself up to the sheriff this in brief is the statement of the parties who saw the affair bailey was arraigned before the court on a charge of murder but the prosecuting attorney phillip T van zile esq did not move for this only asking for a verdict of manslaughter which verdict abo jury brought in after about an of consultation sul tation tho penally for this of benso is imprisonment not to exceed five years and not less than one year in the penitentiary it is thought by many that the case will be appealed though of course it is not known what will be done until judge emerson renders his sentence in the case |
