Show I A credit to the people who reared it through the courtesy of mr thos doxey we were yesterday shown through the new meeting house of the second ward located on the corner of young and sixth streets this fine edifice is nearly completed and is a credit both to its builders and the residents of the ward the building is of brick and of gothic construction it is feet and is 24 feet high from the top of the foundation being 23 feet from floor to ceiling it has three fine windows in the front and five on each aide of the building the inside has been tastefully painted and grained and the pulpit which ia a very neat piece of workmanship was grained in a beautiful manner by mr W II 11 sheperd the work being a gift offering and the last dona by him previous to his starting for his field of missionary labor in great britain the seats are homemade home made and are after the pattern ef ahse used in the large tabernacle at salt lake city the ground upon which tho house is built was it will be remembered donated for abe purpose by mr D IT peery and is a valuable piece of property the young men of the ward have hauled hundreds of loads of gravel around the building which adds greatly to its exterior appearance besides insuring a high dry walk around it at all times and in all weather hii edifice has been raised by donations and proves that the people of the second ward are alivo to the fact that a mooting house or in fact any public building should be of such proportions aa to be credit to its locality we congratulate our friends of the second ward upon their energy enterprise and fino meeting house and only regret that the let upon which it stands is hardly large enough to insure its future surroundings being in consonance with the neat edifice |
