It is no secret to say that when the curtain first arose playgoers, were rather uneasy. From first impressions ii looked as though they were about to bo the victims of a revival of one of those old melodramas in which thei j mortgage is about to be foreclosed on I in" Invalid widow and her manlj son 'and in which the Villain wears a silk hat. ; But when Mrs. Hopper, a delightfully delight-fully vivacious little actress, and! shapely, too, came upon the stage and ' j the action developed a tittle, there were pleasurable sighs cf relief and the audience settled down to What I was an evening of great pleasure. The characters of the village drama were caricatures.
