That her daughter, 15 years old. had been a! virtual prisoner at 'he ranch of John1 Pappaa, and that Pappas has mistreat ed the girl, is the complaint made by Mrs Man. Hill of Bloomincton. Neb.. to County Attorney J A Christmas I and Sheriff D C Oakley. l'.ippas, Mrs Hill stated, married her) niece, who Invited Miss Hill to ihe ranch on a visit Pappas forwarded' money for the girl to make the Jour j ney from Nebraska. After some time had elapsed, during which she received no news from her j daughter, ehe wrote to have the girl sent home The letter apparently was disregarded and Mr and Mrs. Hill lm-mediately lm-mediately set out for Kemmerer In an j automobile. The girl. Mrs. Hill claims, was found In a pitiful condition. She was desperately des-perately 111 and only partially dressed, her clothes having been taken away. The girl was taken, half dressed, to Opal, where a physician pronounced her trouble diphtheria and the county health officer took charge She was brought to Kemmorer ?.nd Is now in the contagion ward of the Lincoln County Miners' hospital. Pending the outcome of Miss Hill s illness a warrant charging assault an 1 battery' as sworn to and served by Deputy Sheriff William Conroy. |
