Show MED Ml! LEffl ffllffi SI FORT, I Former Director of Forty-Sev-enlh Infantry Band and of the Famous Thirteenth SALT LAKE. March 26. Band Leader Arthur A. Jason, formerly director di-rector of the Forty-seventh infantry band and later or tho noted Thirteenth field artillery band in France during the world war, arrived at Fort Douglas Doug-las yesterday from Fori McDowell. Oh, and reported to Major V". M. Goodale, education and recreation officer, offi-cer, to take charge of the Fort Douglas- vocational school cf music. The school is to be opened in building build-ing 56-A and courses of instruction for the enlisted men will he given in reading, read-ing, theory, harmony, vocal and instrumental, in-strumental, band and orchestra work. Requisition for the necessary Instruments Instru-ments has been made to the supply depot at Philadelphia and pending their arrival instruction will be given in the fundamental principles of music. This school is open to all enlisted en-listed men of the post who desire a musical education. Mr. Jason was in action In the Chateau-Thierry drive and his band men went over the top with the regiment. Half of the men'were left on the field. Mr. Jason was later transferred to th. Thirteenth artillery band and tooic this organization on a tour of parts of Europe. Arrangements were completed yes-terday yes-terday for the opening of a school of dancing for enlisted men at the post hall. The first class will be held next Thursday evening. Professor L. P. Christensen of Salt Lake has donated his services as instructor in dancing. All enlisted men who desire- to learn tc dance will be given opportunity to enter these classes. Knlisted men of ihe post will be entertained en-tertained at Ihe Community club house in Salt Lake tomorrow night at a dance and the next big dance at the post will be held at the post hall Sat-uiday Sat-uiday night, April 3. The Woolworth club girls of the city will entertain about twenty of the post soldiers at an Easter egg hunt and pic nlc in Emigration canyon Easter Sun-itfay, Sun-itfay, under chaperonagc of Miss Mary ! Stewart of the Community club, i Trucks from the post will take the young women and their soldier guests tc the canyon and back. Arrangements are being made to celebrate Easter at the post by having one of the leading choirs of the city render its Easter music in the new Service club theater in the afternoon Resurrection day. |
