Show WOOD LEADS WITH . LOH SECOND IN SOUTH DAKOTA VOTE Senator Hiram Johnson Runs Third in Primaries; Other Political Notes SIOUX FALLS. S. D., March 24. Returns on Republican presidential indorsement in-dorsement from yesterday's state primary pri-mary election, compiled this forenoon from 651 precincts out of 1740 gave Wood 22,106 votes, Lowden 17,135 and Johnson 15,996. These returns were from 54 of 64 counties. The missing counties are all small, having a total of only 147 precincts. Of the counties heard from, Woocf Is leading In 32, Johnson in 11 and Lowden Low-den in 10. Wood and Lowden were teld In one county. Wood's total was swelled by heavy pluralities in the counties Avest of the Missouri river, particularly in the 'Black hills. SPECIAL SESSION. ST. PAUL, Minn., March 24. The Non-Partisan league state convention composed of one delegate from each county in the state met here today in I secret session to select candidates for a state ticket to be entered in the June primaries. Half a dozen candidates have been mentioned for governor. REPUBLICAN CONVENTION. NEW HAVEN, Conn., March 24. The Republican state convention in session here today lo name fourteen delegates to the national convention of the party also had before it a resolution reso-lution urging Governor Marcus H. Hoi-comb Hoi-comb to call a special session of the legislature to act on the federal suffrage suf-frage amendment. The governor who is a Republican, has on several occasions occa-sions refused to call an emergency session to take up this question; BRYAN-GETS BUSY. LINCOLN, Neb., March 24. WiTliam Jennings Bryan will open his campaign in Nebraska in behalf of his candidacy candi-dacy as delegate at large to the Democratic Demo-cratic national convention with an address ad-dress at Elmwood next Friday. -oo |
