Show I UTAH PRINTING IS DISCREDITED. Our state fair, which is supposed to be a medium of stirring up greater interest in the development of Utah, has window cards in Og-den Og-den to which our attention has been directed by local printers. "Mr. Editor," said one of the linotype operators, "have you seen that boost for home industry jn the window yonder. It reads, 'Utah State Fair,' and down at the bottom is the inscription 'Printed in Minneapolis, Minn." The editor, to his surprise, saw the words which in effect stated that Utah without printing facilities to meet the demands of a state fair card to be placed in a show window, The Minneapolis printing is inferior in-ferior to the work turned out by any one of half a dozen shops in Ogden. It is a serious slam at the lithographing and printing business of this state and should create a vigorous protest. Ogden has a lithographing house that receives orders from aall over the west and has been awarded, on a competitive basis, millions of can labels calling for skill and talent in color work, and yet here is our state institution, dedicated dedi-cated to building up Utah industries, advertising the inability of our clever artists to produce a job which has no artistic merits and is a commonplace smear of colored inks. |
