Show SCHUMANN HEINK GIVES SPLENDID CONCERT Madame s huniann -Heink thrilled and delighted her audience at the Or-ipheum Or-ipheum last evening by her pleasing personality and magnificent singing of 8 program that cave her hearers a fine conception of the splendid talents of the famous, and we may add, most admired contralto singer. She was i--i-iil bv Ij iii'.-iu lb rumen, an exceptionally ex-ceptionally pleasing young pianist, who received the heart applause of a well pleased audienoe, and by Frank La Forge, composer and accompanist who responded with fine, artistic touch to every mood of America's best known prima donna. Madame Schumann - Heink has gained gain-ed as the yeara whitened her hair, in gracious charm, wonderful expression ami graceful movements that so finely bring forth the sentiment embodied in the songs She sings Her grand notes and her tender ones bring fine response re-sponse from her heareis "Before the Crucifix." La Forges composition, was linely rendered and "Taps," by Tasterneck brought tears to the eyes of all and. in response to an encore "Donnte Boy," brought smiles in equal contrast. Called back for a final song at the closing of her program Madame Schumann Schu-mann -Heink sang "When the Boys Come Home," a strain of which brought the audience to their feet and as she finished the last note of her song she stretched forth her hands and the entire audience joined her in singing sing-ing the Star Spangled Banner. Schumann Heink's presentation of Aidlli's "Bolero," gave the opportunity for those who admire her most in grand opera to hear a concert number num-ber that comes nearest to the parir, she took in Metropolitan roles, while in the "Indian Love Song" and the ' I'anza," she appeared as in tbe lighter light-er moments, a reminder of the Schu-i.iann-Heink that successfully essaved the comic opera. Ernesto Barumen delighted his audience audi-ence and was compelled to respond to encores, his technique as a pianist, and the clearness of the tones he sc cured, could but win a place wi'h music lovers. Frank La Forge has been accompanist accompa-nist for u numberof America's greatest concert singers. As a composer, be has become better and better known.
