Show o Fifty Aviators Tuning Up For Cross Country Race MINEOLA. N. Y , Oct. 7 More than fifty aviators at Roosevelt field were giving Ihe final tuning up today to the airplanes with which they will start tomorrow morning on the first leg of j the transcontinental race between Mineola and San Francisco. About seventy airplanes in all are expected! to participate in the race which lei being arranged by the I nitid Statt -army aviation service and the Amer-i iran Flying club as a test of various types of planes developed during the w B r In addition to the starters from Mineola Min-eola more than a score of airmen avHI Btart at San Francisco Added interest was given to the race today with the announcement by American Flying club officials that the air service had derided to make the race a return trip affair a 5400 mile flight, instead of 2700 miles as originally contemplated Entrants will start on the return flight two days after the last plane has completed the transcontinental trip it was stated oo |
