Godfrey Matthews. Speaking of the purpose of these meetings on Sunday night last to ih? ongp gallon. Mr. Matthews said: "Throughout the United States and all over Great Britain, posalbly all over the world there are evident signs of the working of the spin' of God on the hearts of men. The churches of the Christian faith are all of them striving to meet the demands of the age and are publishing to the worl.l ambitious programs of labor for the Kingdom of God in the world of men. They are, however, most of them poorly poor-ly attended, and not all the 'attractive' services that the mind of man can d vise will ever satisfy the deep spiritual spirit-ual longings of the soul which are bring br-ing so ardently expressed in moc ments for social reform, in spiritualistic spiritualis-tic inquiry, in faith cults and higher thought movements It is mo-U evident to any serious observer that th churches of the present day must see!: to meet the needs of the time by giving giv-ing to men, a quickened sense of Throne Thr-one wise and hoh, bearing and carry ) ing God in whose communian man finds his place in the universe, his' work in the world and his hope atter! death These meetings of fellowship, prayer, and meditation ar meant to quicken that sense of need of Gon. meant to enable us to find Htm as n present help to these meetings all who hnc burdens to bear, and doubts to solve, and sins from which they would j be redeemed are welcome. Let the i faith of those who are strong come to' the aid of those who are w-?-.k. Wei shall care little for denominational la- j bels, but we shall try to care much for the needs of one another and for the God in whom is our sufficiency." oo |
