Alaska, virtually was wiped out by an epidemic of influenza, was brought ; here today with tho return of the I United States cruiser Marblchoad from I a relief expedition to the north. According to Lieutenant W. R Lea-! Lea-! hy, senior medical officer of the ex- pedition, f5 per cent of a population of more than nine hundred person? I had died by the time the expedition reached Bristol Bay. Children and babies who appeared immune from the disease, but weak from starvation, lay among the dead upon which bands of dogs were preying prey-ing when the expedition arrived, the officer said.
