Show PRESIDEWT CALLS ON EMMELIHE WEL1S AT UTAH HOTEL SALT LAKE. Sept 24 Only one 1 person in Salt Lake was favored with an official call by President and Mrs. Woodrnw Wilson. This individual was I Mrs Emmeline P. Wells, the aged j president of the Relief societies of he L. D. 8. church, and one of the founders found-ers of woman suffrage- in Utah Mrs. Wells, who has been ill for Beveral weeks in her room al the Hotel Dtah, greatly desired to see the president. At first it was thought she might be taken In a wheel chair o see him pass to his rooms, as she was located on the sanv' floor as the president's suite. But she was too weak for- that, so President and Mrs Wil-o.i m.-'ir ten-mlnute call on Mrs. Wells President Wilson sa. bv Mrv A'e!ls' bedside, and, in shaking hands with her, said he wanted to thank her for what she did as president of !he lief societies in helping witli her sociates in the storing of wheat and then turning it over to the government govern-ment in time of need Mrj. The visit of the president greatlj cheered Mrs. Wells. She was anxious to shake his hand, as she hns met twelve of the United States' chief executives. ex-ecutives. Jn her younger years, Mrs Wells took an active inter st in policies, poli-cies, and on several occasions was sent east to the electoral conventions. She also has called on several prcsi- dents at the White House in Washing jton, but this Is the first time a president presi-dent has called on her. Mrs Wells is now more than 01 years of age She ihas played a prominent part in the life I of the state and is perhaps the most noted woman character I'tah has ever known. It is believed Mr: Welle will recover from her present illness and if her condition permits; will speak at the coming Relief society conference. |
