Show oo W. J. SHIELDS DIES; LONG IN BUSINESS SALT LAKE, March 19. William J. Shields, prominent in Salt Lake business busi-ness circles for many years, died yesterday yes-terday at a local hospital following a major operation, which he underwent last Thursday. Colonel Shields, who was born at West Jordan, in Salt Lako county, July 10, 1860, resided in this state practically prac-tically all his life, with tho exception of a few years spent in Seattle, Wash., about 1900-1902. Ho was a son of George and Jano Shields, and in tho earlier years of his lifo was hoav-Ily hoav-Ily interested in tho sheep business. For many years ho was the proprietor of the Gaiety grill on Main street. , A widow, and one son and two :Ttn BaBSESCT 1 -II daughters survive Mr. Shields: Hal Shields, Mrs. Nellie Eeeser of Salt JM Lako and Mrs. Richard Dewey of jH Havana, Cuba. A brother, David, of South Jordan, and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Beckstead of Whitney, Idaho; H Mrs. Margaret Abbott of Salt Lake. IH and Mrs. Bell Woodruff of Cottonwood also survive him. |
