Show HINDUS SHOT IN COURT Editor of the "Ghadr" Probably Fatally Wounded. ASSAILANT KILLED United States Marshal Downs Ram i Singh. SAN FRANCISCO. April 23 Ram Chandra, editor of the Hindu publication publica-tion "Ghadr" (revolution) was shot, probably fatally, here today by Ram Singh another Hindu defendant in the trial of thirty two persons charged with conspiring to foment revolution against British rule in India. Court bad just adjourned for the I noon re c s.-Singh s.-Singh fired two shots at Chandra, both of which took effect. I'nited States Marshal J. B. Holo-han, Holo-han, who was present, across the. court room from Singh, drew his revolver re-volver and shot Singh, who fell to the floor. United States District Attorney John W. Freston had just concluded the prosecution's final argument to the jury when Singh, a member of the "Ghadr" staff, rose from his seat in the court room and fired the shots. Ensuing wild coniusion and a stampede stam-pede for the door were quelled by United States District Judge William C Van Fleet, who returned from his chambers as the shooting began and ordered the room cleared and placed in charge of an army guard. Feeling against Ram Chandra has run high at various times in the course i of the trial because of testimony to the effect that he had fattened his personal Income with money intended intend-ed for the reolulion.
