It has been a case of watchful waiting or waiting watchfulness on the part of tho different leaders. One party party seemed to bo walling for the Republicans have said that they woro waiting to see what their "Democratic "Demo-cratic brethren" will do while on tho other hand the Democrats declare that they aro "in no hurry." In order to "start the ball rolling," as far as tho state convention is con-corned, con-corned, tho Republicans will hold their first meeting Saturday night to consider con-sider tho matter of Issuing a call for a county convention to name delegates to the stale convention, which is to name three candidates for the slate supreme courL C. R. Holllngsworth, chairman of the Weber county centrnl committee, expected to issue the call for the meeting today. It is stated that the meeting may also consider dates for the county convention, con-vention, which will name the county and legislative ticket. The plan has been suggested, as a matter of economy econ-omy and saving time, that the primaries primar-ies which name the delegates to tho state convention also name tho dele gntes for the county and congressional congression-al conventions. The congressional conventions to name candidates for congress from tho . two districts of tho state will be held . in Salt Lake at the timo of tho state convention. This was the plan adopted adopt-ed at the state convention in this city two years ago and will probcbly be i followed out this year by both par-i par-i ties. Congressional Timber. Among the names of the men mcn-. mcn-. turned for congress on the Republican ticket are t ose of two of th most prominent me-nbers of the p.rty in this city, A. R. Heywood and W:1'ihm 11- Wattis. 1 he announcement of eith-r eith-r or of the rbovo gentlemen has not r been made, but both names ha." been ! frequently hcvrd among members f llw party. Nf other names for coii- gressional nomination from th- souMv L ern part of !n state, which is com-; com-; pnsed u this district have bri mon-i mon-i tioned- The i'emocrats will probably I nominate Congressman M. H. Welling ; to succeed himself. I In the legislative ticket it is slated ? that Josti h C! ez will be named by the I Weber Po'.mciats for state semlcr to i snncpprl himself without onnosition. 'although Senator Chez does not seek the nomination. George Halverson is named as the likely candidate on the Republican tickot. For the lower house the names of .Dr. E. M. Conroy. D. D. McKay, from the city, with Adam L. Peterson of Ogden valley, and James R. Beus of Hooper, have been suggested- The Republicans may name Mrs. Lillibelle F. Falck, candidate on the ticket two years ago, and an active worker in the women':; club circles of the city, and W. E. Zuppaun, who has been a party worker in various campaigns. Two candidates from tho county may be named for the lower house by the Republicans. For county commissioners, John Farr for tho two-year term and Moroni Moro-ni Skeen on the Republican tickot are suggested. D. H. Ensign and John McCready for tho four-year term are mentioned by Democrats. For County Clerk Charles M. Ram-oy, Ram-oy, tho incumbent, who has given nn efficient and economical administration, administra-tion, will undoubtedly receive the re-nomination re-nomination at the hands of hie party. Tho name of Joseph E. Storey has been suggested as the candidate by the Republicans. For county attorney, Joseph E- Evans, Ev-ans, Republican, will oppose Charles L. Farr, democrat. For sheriff Roy E. Rasmussen of North Ogden, former horticulture agent for the county, is being suggested suggest-ed by tho Republicans, while H. C. Peterson, the incumbent, will undoubtedly undoubt-edly be named by the Democrats. For treasurer the contest on the Democratic ticket will probably be between be-tween Walter N. Farr and A. V. Huish. Tho Republicans will probably prob-ably name Alma D. Chambers, Miss Kathryn Higginbotham, present pres-ent county recorder, will probably have no opposition in the Democratic ranks. The candidate for the office on the Republican ticket will probably be Archio Petterson. The name of O M. Sanderson to succeed himself as assessor, has been suggested by the Democrats. No announcement an-nouncement as to the Republican's probable candidate has been made. Consolidation of Offices. In political circles the matter of securing se-curing legislation that will lead to a consolidation of city and county officers, of-ficers, as a matter of economy, has been talked in various political circles, not only by Democrats but Republicans Republic-ans as v.'ell. This has been suggested as a war-time necessity and is said to follow out tho views of those who have investigated the success of tho consolidation consol-idation of city and county offices in various parts of the country. It has been practically agreed by in both parties that there will be no intense partlsanlsm this fall. During the time of the fourth Liberty loan drive Trom the latter part erf September Septem-ber to the middle of October, politics will be laid aside and those orators, who have planned to talk for their party candidates, will be called on to dovotc their energies to expounding the facts about the var loan. nn |
