Is resulting in tho Joining of federal and state forces for more effective ef-fective measures to check the malady. Tho serious situation in New England Eng-land and more especially in Massachusetts Massachu-setts which has called forth a proclamation procla-mation by the governor, suggesting the closing of schools, churches and places of amusement, was discussed today by tho public health service authorities. There wero no reports early today regarding tho situation in army camps, twenty -one of which yesterday reported report-ed tho presence of the disease. Telegrams from many sections indicated indi-cated that more favorable weather conditions were expected to aid materially mater-ially in stamping out the malady. Today all the medical authorities expressed strong hope that tho epidemic epi-demic had noarly reachod Its peak. Measures taken in many cities to meet the situation were expected to show results within a day or two while tho return of fair weather in place of tho frequent rains of the last week prom- ised much toward a reduction In the ; toll taken by the disease.
