Show Fury of Barbarians Against J Italians Has Been Hor-cj Hor-cj rible to See. i WASHINGTON. Nov. ' 1 "As the I 1 Italian army prosecutes Its victorious I advance," says a Rome dispatch, "most I deplorable evidence is coming to light ; of atrocities by the enemy during the ! ! period of invasion. In Italy, as in France, the fury of the barbarians has ; been intense against things and persons. per-sons. Such fury has been -witnessed ' not only by Italian soldiers but by representatives of Italian and Allied press accompanying advancing columns. col-umns. "Everywhere there are tokens of : wilful, useless destruction and brutal . robberies. Terrified eye witnesses narrate horrible scenes. I "The Italian government, the mili-1 , J tary authorities and the Allies will not O? fail to carry out rigorous inquiry re-1 re-1 , garding abominations committed, of . which the enemy must give an ac- . count. i "Italians found in freed zones are : in a terrible state. They lack every -I thing, because the enemy during a year of occupation destroyed, burnt, sacked and carried off everything." oo ETERNAL VIGILANCE Mr. Editor: May I be allowed lo 1 say a few things to Ogden voters relative rel-ative to the adoption of the amendment amend-ment to our state constitution forbidding forbid-ding the sale of alcoholic beverages? i Let no one suppose that because the : legislature passed a statutory law for-; for-; bidding this business, by a large ma-i ma-i jority two years ago and also subs' sub-s' mltted the same question to the vote i of the people at the coming election, ; that the battle is won and that there ) is no need of vigilance. This is just ; the time above all others when we should see to it that we are not tripped up right at the last when we are in sight of victory and should ' thereby lo"se the fruit of all our labor ; : of years. Don't overlook this amend - ment. Vote for it. We have all seen ' the fruitful results In our state during the fifteen months of suppression of , tho alcohol traffic, Remember that I) , John Barleycorn is always on the job. t He never sleeps, and is always ready I' '. to take ndvantago oa lethargy or inaction of his opponentsSsn't give him that apportunity. Be sure and vote for the amendment Put your X where it will count yes. I would like al3o to call the attention atten-tion of our voters to the fact that the J amendment prohibiting the traffic in , i. alcoholic beverages to the national , r constitution is to bo voted upon by our 1 state legislature this winter, and we 1 should see to it that none but true and tried temperance advocates arc sent to our legislature this winter. Look carefully over the list of nominees nomi-nees for the legislature and make sure that you vote for the candidate who represents your views. Don't vote for him because he is a Doraocrat or a Republican but voto for him because you know how he stands and you know he can be trusted to carry out your views. This amendment to the national na-tional constitution is one of the most far reaching pieces- of legislature ever enacted by our national congress and it is now up to the voters of Utah as to whether we will endorse the same. Be sure you arc voting for the men who can bo trusted. (Signed) C. E. SMITH. oo |
