Show Theatres ORPHEUM THEATRE. The patrons who visited the Orphe-um Orphe-um theatre last night have occasion to feel grateful to Manager Jos. F. Goss for providing an entertainment that has class enough to entertain. This hill Is one of the best that has come along for some weeks, and makes amends for all that was lacking in any of the- numbers of last week or. the week before. There la not .t number on the bill this week that is not good, thouch "in' nuuibers. naturally, arc better than others. The real laugh makers on the bill are Al Petrie and James Thompson. They call their number.. "Camouflage "What Is, What Ain't." With their face, blackened and with two buckets of whitewash they have coined Bltuation that goes well with their funny dialogue. What is that makes folks laugh at them It might be hard to tell by analysis. But the fact remains that they get some screams from ihe audience, and they get a ft w i oars also. But the tears are not caused by emotion they come from hearty lauchter. One of the interesting features of i he bill is the motion picture taken of' thM Orpheum War (iaruVu club s dem-onstratlon dem-onstratlon of the way small and large ' tanning la done without horses by the j u-r- of a 'baby' tractor. This picture, hhoxvs Miss Florence Fisher, the cash-! ler at the box office, driving the plow when tin- ground was broken at thfi corner of W ashington avenue and j Twenty-seventh street. It ;-lso shows1 Judge . 11 Kecder, Jr., making the! opening speech. For real classy entertainment that ranks as far above a circus as clvlll- i zaiion does above the cave days and; tail-hanging periods it would be dlffl i 'cult to find one that outranks "The) E&leveo TJyenaa ' a Japanese troupe of 'famous acrobats and jugglers. When; ; an acrobatic feat is mentioned now- I adays we usually turn up our nose? j and sniff, especially if we are expect - 'ed to be entertained by witnessing it. I But the Uyenas are not that kind. They have a real performance The bni this week contains two l lr 1 on tal numbers. Lee Hop A I om- panv are real good musical entertainers entertain-ers and they have a sense of humor; as well. There are three men and one I 'woman in thi;- group, but just what; ! part of China they came from it would, 1 be hard to tell. The woman looks ;t! ithoimli she came from Chinatown in : San Francisco, but the men look like Pekinese Al any rale they know how 'to perform on various sorti; of musi-( musi-( M msirumenb?. They are well appre-I appre-I elated. j The show opens with "The Harvey Trio' playing basketball on bicycles This is a ery fascinating game to watch and is played with greal skill The audience wonders how they do it Hope Vernon, another musical nonius, noni-us, follows the Harvey Trio and doefi some performing that gets a volume ( of applause at the finish. |
