When the council of defense yesterday yester-day issued a warning to Americans, advising them not to prejudge for signers who may not be lully in ac cord witn them, a very much needed word of caution was given. Not one of us is Justified in casting suspicion at a foreign-born simply because be-cause he is pro-German In discussing the European war. Any man of German Ger-man extraction naturally leans to the side of the Ontral powers The only test to be applied is that of loyalty when this country becomes involved. Every man enjoying the blessings of this great country of ours owes allegiance. alleg-iance. Even though this nation makes a mistake, there must be a loyal response re-sponse when danger threatens. Eventually Event-ually whatever blunders are commit-ted. commit-ted. will be corrected under the constant con-stant evolution upward of a people I working out their destiny through a republican form of government. But there should be no scoffing at Germans, or people of German descent. The men and women from the fatherland father-land should have the deepest sympathy sym-pathy and most generous consideration considera-tion of all true Americans in this hour of choosing between the country they left in order to better thr-ir conditions and the land of their adoption. The Germans who desire to see America go on developing as a republic re-public must stand by the St;irs and Stripes.
