Tho California Cali-fornia game and fish commission, in whose hands is placed the administra tion of tho wild life resources of tho state, has been collecting data as to i he abundtnee and yearly tako of various var-ious species of fish and game. Tho committee on scientific investigations working under the council of defense is anxious to obtain information on the amount and value of tho annual catch of fish and the tako of game so that an inventory of the natural food resources re-sources of the state may bo at hand. Detailed information concerning the commercial fisheries has been collected collect-ed Avith the ultimate object of aiding In the development of the latent fishery fish-ery resources and at the same time conserving the marine species upon which these industries depend. A law enacted at the last legislature requires dealers and handlers of fish to make an accurate monthly statement of the quantity and varieties of fish handled and where they are caught. Those data not only show the actual catch from month to month, but also tho declino and rise of any fishery and tho season of each variety of fish. The information now available on fish marketing mar-keting problems, the sanitary handling of fish by fishermen and by markets, the cold-storaging of fish, tho utilization utiliza-tion of fish waste for fertilizer or for chicken feed is expected to be of great servico in solving tho food prob-lom prob-lom confronting the nation. Similarly the fish and game commission commis-sion has made available through its game research department statistics on the annual kill of deer, rabbits, ducks, geese and other game |
