Show Bureau Silver No Longer Smart 1 1 CHE woman who with much pains and at no little expense has collected col-lected a great array of sllvor for hor bureau Is now quite Justified In sitting down and weeping a bit. for bureau silver Is "out." No longor do enormous hand mirrors In ropousso patterns, no longer does a galaxy of shining brushes adorn tho dressing tables of tho socially elect. Thtir places havo been taken by Implements Im-plements of tortoise shell or by Implements Imple-ments of Ivory. Exquisitely simple are thoso pieces, and thoy have an advantago in that they are much easier to keep clean than ure tho silver ones. Of artistic designs they aro, their only ornament consisting of the Initials of tho owner done in stiver, platinum or gold on tholr backs. Of course nothing Is gained In economy by this fad for who can ' conceive of anything more luxurious than real tortoise shell articles with a platinum Initial. And these have another an-other drawback since "shell" Is vory fragile, breaks easily and Is difficult to mend. Tho samo is true of genuine genu-ine ivory. To meet thoso exigencies the ever ingenious manufacturers have made Imitations of both ma- terlals rne lmnauon tortoise sucu i quite successful, tho Imitation ivory a little less so but woll enough regarded re-garded simply as a celluloid material. Tho articles made of tho latter fabrlo often havo Initials etched Into tho backs of them in somo bright oolor I such as blue or pink. Howovor, here's a warning even for those who can afford genuine tortoise shell. Do not use tho comb which comes with tho set. It Is for ornament orna-ment alono for even ono whisk of It through tho hair is apt to tako many teeth from it Two combs therefore usually come with a set, ono for ornament orna-ment tho other for use. The woman who has collected a large and Imposing amount of sllvor Is sure to mourn but tho news of tho rhango will bo good news to those of us at least who have no silver and who can afford the Imitation ivory. |
