Show PRESENT BOARD OF. EDUCATION Members of the present board of education are being urged to present themselves as candidates at the election elec-tion to be held on December 6. Judge H. H. Henderson and Fred E. Williams have responded, but W. H. Williams of the Second ward and Wade M. Johnson John-son of the Fifth ward aro non-committal. J. W. Levcdahl in tho Third ward may be unopposed. The board as at present constituted entered on its duties with most adverse ad-verse circumstances to contend against. It is generally admitted that no body of school directors ever labored la-bored more diligently to bring order out of chaos. Disorganization was everywhere and discord prevailed. Conditions were so bad prominent educators ed-ucators from the outside declined to accept flattering offers to direct the schools. They feared scheming and disrupting influences. Gradually, out of the turmoil, has come peace. No fads or fancies have been tried, but a sane policy, based on the best in education In the. United States, has been followed, with the result that the students are now moving along much the same lines as in Salt Lake and progress is . being made. The standard often has expressed regret that federal school systems aro prescribed by boards of education throughout the country, instead of by exports In the employ of the federal government Had masterful minds In Washington been guiding, Ogden never nev-er would have been distracted with the half-day and other shattering dislocations dis-locations of our BChool systom. Ogden muBt keep up with the vanguard van-guard in education, but Ogden cannot afford to adopt tho purely experimental. experimen-tal. Our educators must be as oau-tlous oau-tlous In adopting that which Is empirical em-pirical as are our eminent medical doctors. Our physicians constantly meet with cures which are advertised adver-tised as revolutionary of tho modical practice, but the strangely now must be tried out and have the endorsement endorse-ment of the great men of tho profession profes-sion before the careful practitioner applies it In ius practice. oo ' |
