J Among the institutions that have enlarged en-larged their facilities to enable tho handling of Increased business are the Ogden Packing & Provision Co., the Amelgamated Sugar Co., the Ogden, Logan & Idaho railway, Utah Canning Co., Goddard Pickle & Preserve Co., Banner Canning Co., Bverfresh Food Co., American Can Co., Ogden Union Stock Yards, Utah Cereal Food Co., the John Scowcroft & Cons Co., Utah Power & Light Co., and the Pintsch Gas Co. Industries Developing. Within the past six months the Ogden Og-den Packing & Provision Co. Increased its capitalization to permit the expenditure expen-diture of $300,000 in tho enlargement of the plant at the foot of tho viaduct. These Improvements Include the purchase pur-chase of additional ground and the building of several buildings, the main one for use, exclusively as a pork packing plant. Additional amounts have also been appropriated for the erection of two branch plants on the Pacific coast, one-at San Francisco and the other at Los Angeles. The latter two branches will be used in the distribution of the manufactured products along the Pacific coast. The products of the -company have found markets In the old world i addition to recording, an enormous gain in favor fa-vor of tho markets in the United States. The improvements .being made by the Amalgamated Sugar Co. include in Wilson Lane through an addition and improvement in the old. plant : the construction of a new plant at Twin Falls, Idaho, and the purchase of ground for the Alta plant in Cache county. The improvement made by the Ogden, Og-den, Logan & Idaho railway include tho building of the cut-off from Hot Springs to Brlgham, tho establishment of yards in Ogden, together with the building of shops here and the construction con-struction of a new passenger station in Logan. This station Is considered ono of tho finest in the interrao'untain west. Through tho installation of "Wonder" "Wond-er" Cookers, now in progress, and automatic au-tomatic equipment, the capacity of the plant of the Utah Canning Co. has been increased about 300 per cent. The company in line with Its improvement work, is also arranging to build a now sauerkraut plant on its property. The Goddard Picklo & Preserve Co. is installing new cooking equipment, together Tvith making other improvements improve-ments at its plant, while the Banner Canning Co. Is building an immense pea silo to be used in conjunction with its canning industry. Tho Bverfresh Food Co., by the expenditure of thousands thous-ands of dollars, has more than doubled the capacity of its plant, established here about eighteen months ago. The American Can Co. has made improvements improve-ments at its plant and Installed additional addi-tional machinery within the past three or four months. Tho Ogden Union Stock Yards Co., a newly organized company, has purchased pur-chased 72 acres west of the city to be used for yards. These will be completed com-pleted at a cost of not less than $100,-000. $100,-000. The Utah Cereal Food Co. is now operating its plant at full blast. Improvements Im-provements made recently Include the building of a new stock food plant in addition to the main plant on which construction work was finished with the past year. The John Scowcroft & Sons Co., manufacturers of "Never-Rip Garments," Gar-ments," is installing additional machinery ma-chinery in its Ogden plant in preparation prepara-tion for handling an increased volume of trade. Improvements of the Utah Power & Light Co. include the building build-ing of an addition to a gas plant, also an addition to the plant of the Pintsch Gas Co., the same to be used for the utilization of by-proaucts. Further Expansion Indicated. The improvements being mado by these concerns, all now carrying on interstate business in addition t'o the local business, not only shows the strides that are being made in the way of commercial progress, but Indicates that further expansion through the establishment of additional industries here will be a certainty within the next few years. |
