Null, both Democrats who, on the face of unofficial unof-ficial returns, were defeated for congress con-gress in the third and fourth districts, respectively, have asked that recounts be made in certain counties of both districts, according to information today. to-day. Notice of contests have already been filed in the counties affected. Null was Mefetcd by Harry C. Wood-yard, Wood-yard, while Anderson lost to Stuart F. Reed. A demand for a recount of tho ballots bal-lots cast in Cabell county for candidates candi-dates on both the Democratic and Republican Re-publican tickets for presidential electors elect-ors and United Slates senator was made today by attorneys representing the Republican county committee. The recount probably will start tomorrow as the county commissioners expect the official canvass to have been completed com-pleted by that time. Reports that judicial Inquiries are to be Instituted in Marion, Caboll, Logan Lo-gan and Webster counties into alleged election frauds checked all discussion of the proposed extraordinary session of the state legislature today and the opinion was expressed at the capitol that nothing would be done for several sev-eral days in connection with the call. Governor Hatfield refused to discuss the matter. At the office of the secretary of state it was stated that no official returns re-turns had yet been received and none was expected before tomorrow. Houston Hous-ton G. Young, chief clerk there, who also has been elected secretary, of state, said it probably would bo a week before all aro in. In previous elections it has been impossible sometimes some-times for weeks to get these returns. He said that the starting of judicial inquiries, however, would result in further delay and that the complete returns from West Virginia might not be known before January 1 next Attorneys representing the Democratic Demo-cratic national committee late today filed in the county court of Morgan county a petition asking for a recount of the votes for president and United States senator. No charge of fraud was made, but it was claimed that there were errors which may reduce the vote received by Charles E. Hughes and Howard Sutherland, Republican Re-publican candidate for United States senator. Tho canvass by the county commissioners com-missioners of Ohio county has resulted result-ed in a gain of 41 votes for Ira E. Robinson, Republican candidate for governor, a gain of 29 for Senator William Wil-liam E. Chilton, candidate for re-election on the Democratic ticket, and a loss of 16 for President Wilson.
