Show NEW YORK STATE TO PROBE HIGH COST Albany, N. Y., Dec. 3. The appointment appoint-ment of a committee of five under the chairmanship of George D. Perkins to investigate the causes of the high, cost of living and to recommend such legislation as may result in lower prices of food through economical distribution, dis-tribution, was announced by Governor Whitman today. "For years past," Governor Whitman Whit-man said today," the increasing cost of living has been a subject of great and growing importance and has perhaps per-haps become of first importance to the people of pur state. "The legislature this winter should take up the whole problem in a broad, constructive manner. I have decided to appoint a committee to assist the executive and the legislature in investigating inves-tigating and preparing such recom-mnedations recom-mnedations and legislation as may tend to bring about a reduction of the cost of foodstuffs to the consumer through efficient and economical organization or-ganization without loss In revenue to the producer."
