Robbing trains in tho vicinity of Ogden is attended with less risk of being caught than if masked criminals crim-inals wore operating In a wild country, coun-try, far from human habitation; in fact holding up trains near any city offers more chances of escape than does even the Hole-ln-the-Wall country, coun-try, and this Is true because once the daring highwayman makes his way back to his rendezvous in the city, he is as difficult to 'find as a needle in a haystack. In tho holdup of the Oregon Short Lino train at Roy on Saturday night, , the masked bandit Is supposed to have made his way to Salt Lake City He boarded the train in Salt Lake and is thought to be one of tho gang working in that city. Ho Is referred to as a gentleman robber, as his i commands were in mild voice and good language "Black Bart," the most nortorious stago robber of tho Pacific Coast, answered the description descrip-tion of this train holdup. He evaded capture over a long period. The officers offi-cers "wero constantly searching 'for a lair in the mountains, but, after every exploit, "Black Bart" proceeded to San Francisco where he mingled with the crowds and, dressed In tho latest style, was the last to be suspicioned By a little co-operation on tho part of the officers of Ogden and Salt Lake, the security which theso two cities present to the train robber can be turned against the bandit. There should be a prearranged method of guarding both cities against ingress after a robbery alarm. Every avenue leading in to both cities should be blocked Tvith officers, and every I traveler should be halted and made to explain his mission.
