Show NEVADA UNABLE TO GET ELK SHIPMENT Ely, New, Feb. 20. White Pine county officials are in receipt of a letter let-ter from the secretary of state in reply to their telegram sent to the effect that the matter of getting elk into Nevada does not now look as favorable fa-vorable as it did a short time ago. Since notice was sent out to the different dif-ferent counties that the elk could be procured, the matter has been taken up with United States Senator Pitt- man, Tvho advises that owing to the fact that the laws of Nevada do not amply protect the anlmalB In the judgment judg-ment of those in charge of the bureau of biological survey of the department of agriculture, it will probably not be possible to have any elk shipped Into this state, at least not until the Nevada Ne-vada law is amended by tho legislature legisla-ture Officials here are following the matter up with the hope of convincing convinc-ing the authorities at Washington that even under present conditions tho animals ani-mals would be far better off on the ranges of Nevada than in other places whore they aro said to bo rapidly dying. |
