' ' ' The fast going Utah Copper baseball base-ball team showed in a conclusive manner that the yare to be contenders contend-ers for the championship of the second sec-ond half Sunday afternoon when they won an uphill game from the league leading Arthur club, 9 to 8, after two rallies, one in the eighth and one in the ninth. . . , To "Tuffy" Stillman goes the honor hon-or of hero, for it was his lusty clout down the third base line in the last of the ninth that sent in . the three , runners, with the tying and winning runs. . Piper started on the hilltop for the Miners, but got into trouble in the third, and Jerry Dunn took. up the pitching duties.. Jerry was hit rather rath-er hard in the early innings, but he tightened up, and in the last four frames the visitors had considerable trouble getting men on base. Dow started by getting on by virtue of Steadman's error, Swensen walked, and after Dow had been put out at second, Muir forced Swensen at second. sec-ond. Whiteley was hit in the shanks, and then Baty tripled scoring Muir and Whiteley. Morley sent Baty home with a clean swipe to left. Buckle and Santistevan started the seventh with singles, and Dow walked, walk-ed, but a fast double play, Draper to Barrett to Facer snuffed out the rally. Stillman, replacing Whiteley in the eighth, singled to right,' and went to second on an out. Dunn singled to center scoring Stillman ,and then Buckle poked one over the left field wall scoring Dunn ahead of him. The ninth was the real thriller. Stead-man's Stead-man's error allowed Dow to reach second base, and then Swensen walked. walk-ed. Muir singled to deep short filling fill-ing the bases. Stillman tripled down the third base line, scoring Dow, Swensen and Muir. Morley furnished ,the fielding feature fea-ture with a great one-handed catch of Myers fly in the third.
