Show STREET CAR COMPANY CAN USE CONCRETE Oil ROADBED Convinced through recent investigation investi-gation in Salt Lake and Ogden tha concrete roadbed is best In the paved district of the city, the city board of commissioners this morning granted the petition of Managar P. D. Kline of the Ogden Rapid Transit company to use the material on Twenty-fifth streets from Washington to Harrison avenues, on Twenty-fourth street from Washington to Wall avenue, on Wall avenue from Twenty-fourth to Twenty-fifth and on Twenty-fifth from Wall to Washington. The board, however, denied the petition pe-tition of the street car people to use macadam on Twenty-fifth street from Jefferson to Harrison avenues, contending con-tending that macadam will not meet the requirements. In granting the petition, the board stated that a careful investigation had recently been piade 'regarding the kind of roadbed that should be used In paved districts and that all members had arrived at the conclusion conclu-sion that there is nothing better than concrete, such as that oh Washington avenue, between Twenty-second street and the Ogden river bridge, and it is stipulated that the concrete used in the sections enumerated shall be of the same construction, which is reinforced with steel mesh, giving the pavement the same expansion and contraction as the steel in the tracks, and thus more perfectly protecting pro-tecting the connecting joints between the rails and the asphalt surface on the street at either side of the track. |
