Show MAKES ATTACK ON ROOSEVELT Bal Shores, N. Y., May 24 Charles W. Morse expressed himself tonight at his summer home a eager to take the stand before the interstate commerce com-merce commission and reply to the evidence of Charles S Mellen. involving involv-ing Morse's steamship dealings with the Xew Haven railroad and the part played by President Roosevelt. Morse wants to tell on the witness stand all his transactions with the New Haven railroad He says if the commission puts him on the stand he will tell a somewhat different story from that of Mellen ' Mr Mellen only told about half the truth," said Morse. "What he concealed conceal-ed would make stirring reading, and I will tell It to the interstate commerce commission if it desires me to. "Mr Mellen says President Roosevelt Roose-velt sided with him In the matter of Xew Haven holding on to its steamship steam-ship property because Mr. Roosevelt did not want me to get control of the stock Now, I'll tell what Mr. Mellen said to me about that if the commis sion wants me to. "A few months ago I said that Presi dent Roosevelt had interceded so that the New Haven, contrary to law. could retain Its steamship holdings. What I said is borne out in the statement last week of former Commissioner Smith in telling of his conversation what I have said before, that the New Haven railroad was allowed to maintain main-tain Its illegal monopoly through grace of President Roosevelt If the interstate inter-state commerce commission wishes to hear what I have to say on that point. I'll be glad to respond. Another Loeb seems to have come to the surface in Mr. Smith. He nimbly rushes io the defense of his former chief When Mr. Mellen talked talk-ed on the witness stand J, P. .Morgan's manipulation of the New Haven he showed that Morgan was a wizard at if Morgan put four times the amount 1 of securities on the steamship lines he I wrested from me than I had done He vastly overcapitalized the property after getting hold of It so that It was I watered to the utmost. 1 was a child In the stock watering game compared with Morgan. 'All this evidence before the interstate inter-state commerce commission shows that President Roosevelt was bound to 'get me.' He was after me because he favored Morgan. It's coming out now.-' oo |
