Show DENIES CHARGES OF COMMISSION; Pennsylvania Railroad Claims No Manipulation of Accounts Ac-counts Has Been Made. Philadelphia, Pa., March 10 A telegram tele-gram denying charges that the maintenance main-tenance accounts of the Pennsylvania Railroad company have beon manipulated manipu-lated and that the road has attempted attempt-ed In its statemonts to mislead the public, was today sent to Chairman Clark of the interstate commerce commission com-mission by President Rea of the company. The telegram reads: "On behalf of Pennsylvania Railroad Rail-road company, I desire to deny promptly and positively the statements state-ments reported to have been made by Clifford Thome, chairman of the Iowa state railroad commission, that the maintenance accounts of the Pennsylvania Railroad company havp been manipulated with facility auc that It has attempted to mislead nnd deceive the public and your commission commis-sion as to the true tendency of their net earnings and net corporate income in-come for the year 1913. At the verv first hearing of tho advanced rale case on November 24 last, the attention atten-tion of the commission was specifically specific-ally called to a comparison of the maintenance of way, equipment and other operating expenses as between 1913 and previous years, and the commission com-mission publicly advised at that time that the Pennsylvania railroad system sys-tem would present the commission full and ample testimony oovdrlng every ev-ery one of -these polntB, and are prepared pre-pared to do no as soon as thO( carrl-ors carrl-ors are permitted to be heard." |
