Show WAREHOUSES ARE FILLED WITH GOODS Washington Aug 5 Bonded ware houses at various parts in the United States arc fairly bursting with the great stocks of foodstuffs and merchandise mer-chandise awaiting withdrawal by their owners. The fact is set forth In a statement today by the bureau of foreign and domestic commerce, which declares that goods to the value val-ue of $105,928,224 were in the ware houses June 30 last, as against stocks to tho value of $72,240,878 on June 30, 1912 Two-thirds of the treasure Is In the government's possession in the port of New York. Sugar leaf tobacco, and raw wool make up a heavy part of the stores. Chemicals, manufactures of fiber (chiefly burlaps and linens), manufactures manufac-tures of silks, fruits and nuts, and manufacturers of iron and steel also are beavllj represented. The approaching ap-proaching enactment of tariff leglsla tion by congress Is held responsible for tbe great stocks on hand. "The value of Imported merchan dlse In bonded warehouses at th present time." says the bureau's Statement, "is more than double that in warehouses Immediately prior to the enactment of the tariff laws ot 1890 and 1894, five times greater than in 1897 and about 20 per cent largel than in 1909." |
