H proceed forthwith to secure a loan of $5,000 by bonding the H & city or by other legal means authorized by the constitution S H - and laws of the state of Utah for the purpose of liquidating S H K the present indebtedness incurred in establishing the electric 2 - Jj plant and making such extensions as in the judgment o I the 3 H mayor aud council diem wise, also for the purchase of an additional boiler and for othewisc improving nd complete H J ing said cleccric light plant. H The mass meeting at the Opera H House called by the mayor and H which was held Tuesday uight B. was ntteuded by about 100 tax- m payers. H Mayor Alma Eldredge called H the meeting to order at 8 o'clock H aud stated the object of the m meeting, Hj Jly motion ofC. A. Callis the H " mayor was elected chairman of H the meeting by acclamation. Frank Kippon was also chosen M secretary by acclnmation. The mayor thanked those present for the honor conferred m upon him and gave an extend- M ct! outline of the work that had 1 becit done by the present and H former council, also the condi- H tion of the finances of the city, H and then t-rued the meeting M over to those present. M Councilman fieard spoke at M great length showing by detail- M d statement just where aud how MliUIHaaitIl"" the formercouncil had expended the J 10,000 voted for last Ju-e. and spoke ol the necessity of another an-other boiler at the power house also to liquidate a debt of somewhere some-where in the neighborhood of $2,500 contracted by the former council. Read several communications com-munications from different cities that. Jiad bonded for either power plants or watrr works, aud not one had kept within the sum first bonded for. At this juncture C. A. Callis moved that the above resolution be adopted. Mr. Callis' resolution resolu-tion called for a bond of $4,500 but was amended by Walter Calderwood to read $5,000; the same carried unanimously. After considerable discussion, mostly for the proposition, the meeting adjourned sine die. |
