Show IMANDOT IS DEFEATED Southern Lightweight Is Practically Knocked Out in Tenth Round New Orleans, March 10. After taking tak-ing a good beating for eight rounds from Joe Mandot, Leach Cross of New York succeeded In crossing his right to the Jaw In the middle of the ninth and the New Orleans lightweight candidate can-didate went down for the count of four He was floored three times be fore the end of the round and had to be assisted to hie corner He cam up unable to hold his guard up and Cross floored him with another right to the Jaw, and Mandot's seconds threw In the towel. Mandot had a big lead up to the time that Cross landed his right. He had closed Cross' loft eye and cut his mouth and had the Sen Yorker covering cov-ering up. Cross worked well In th? clinches and seemed to be biding h s J time in the range fighting for a chance to get oer his much touted, punch. Mandot lost gamely He repeatedly rose, perhaps too early, when floored, and ruBhed Cross around the ring In a wild endeavor to turn the tables on the New Yorker. And once he nearl- succeeded by staggering Cross, but the New Yorker came back and floored Mandot a few seconds before the gong finished the ninth. Mandot was a 6 to 3 favorite.
