narlan who intends to stump erie eric and wyoming counties N Y for bryon bryan a delegation of christian scientists from various parts of the country and members of the epworth league to whom he delivered a brief address knowledge of the tact fact that general henry douglas of new york city had organized a bryan and kern club composed of southerners residing in the empire state brought unbounded pleasure to mr bryan the information was contained in a letter received at fairview today gen general eral douglas who Is a native of maryland commanded a brigade in general leos lees corps to which col bryan nebraska regiment was attached mr bry bryan an gave expression to his feelings on the subject by making the following statement believing that gen douglas action would be followed by southerners C rs in other northern states 1 I am very much gratified to hear of it wt have a large number of southern democrats in the city of new york and they have won prominence in all the he departments of the cites activity they have retained their love for fundamental democratic principles and are are in a position to contribute to the bartys success in that state I 1 am more than pleased to hear of the organization of this club the success of adlai addal stevenson mr bryans running mate in 1900 in the second illinois primaries for the governorship er attracted the notice of the democrats here while I 1 take no part in the contests between democrats before the convention or primaries lie he said 1 I am sure I 1 will be pardoned in this case it if I 1 say that while we had bad a number of worthy democrats aspiring to the governorship of illinois no one among them was superior in his qualifications to mr stevenson Sto venson I 1 believe he will make a very strong candidate and will greatly aid the national ticket the dissatisfied republicans and there are many of them in illinois will feel that no harm could come to the state from mr Steven sons election ills his large public service and his sterling qualities continue to make him the ideal candidate and ho he will made an ideal governor the visit of henry george jr lasted an hour his opposition to the idea of guaranty of bank deposits was well taken to by mr bryan but that will not prevent his supporting the democratic ticket for he says he wanted to see democracy win in NoT november niber mr george is nearing the end of an extensive trip and when that Is concluded ho he intends to take the stump in behalf of mr air bryan we talked about somo some things that were particularly interesting to us re remarked marked mr george but beyond that he would say nothing of what was under consideration to the newspaper men mr george declared that it if he could trust the signs he noted a trade union movement on in now new york similar to that in 1886 when his father conducted the campaign this Is the first time in many years except in the care cage of representative littlefield of maine
