Show F IN I 1 N 0 uen 1 AS TO PRESIDING OFFICERS OF COMING legislature kuchler among names mentioned rev J E carver conceded As chaplain of senate now that the time for the convening of tho the state stale legislature is fast approaching pro aching speculation is rife as to whom the presiding officers of that body will be there are arc aspirants for both the position of speaker of the house bouse and president of the senate the latter position being the most important insofar as the honor which the places carry is concerned and honor is about all that attaches to either position according to political gossip the fight fig lit for the presidency of the senate is narrowing down to the consideration of only a few members of that august body the contest really seems to be between senators gardner of utah county and williams of salt lake the fierce contest between these two men may however prove the undoing of both of 0 them and the plum being handed out to some othea man who Is not in the limelight at this time there is considerable talk among the cie members elect of the senate bonato that the dark horses john Y S smith nith of lehi atall county and rudolph kuchler of weber county may come in at the last moment for favorable consideration all the aspirants mentioned except kuchler wore were members of the last senate of the state and mr air kuchler was a member of the lower house two years ago if the light between the old members of the senate gets to fever heat beat resulting in no decision kuchler may win out as a compromise candidate the battle for the election of a speaker of the house is confining itself to a division between the members bt bf the northern part of the state and those of the southern part the man most spoken of for the position from the tho north end of utah Is representative senta tive robinson of cache county and the favorite candidate comes from millard county in the person of orville thompson if there happens i to be a deadlock on the question of sel selecting tho speaker between these two men it Is surmised that brigham clogg clegg of salt lake will be the man to enter the breach and pick tho the plum it Is practically conceded th that at rev J E carver of the presbyterian church of ogden will become the chaplain of the senate when tha organization of that body Is perfected |
