Show conferees of senate and house agree on this item washington april 17 the army Is practically assured of an increase an fn pay the conferees of the senate and house hayo reached an agreement on this item of tho army appropriation bill substantially along the lines of the senate amendment which graded the authorized increases according to the various branches of the service no agreement has been arrived at on tho amendment to the appropriations for barracks and quakers qua ners which was increased to the extent of 1 by the senate making the total the senate struck out also a provision that not more than should be used tor new construction st and not more than at any one post the house conferees take the position that in the form which this appropriation has been left by the senate it would be possible to divert practically the entire amount to one section of the country and build up there a great military post such as has not been the purpose of congress so dissatisfied did the conferees become at the last session that they voted to postpone consideration of the bill for a time hull chairman of the house conferees has gone to iowa and there will be no further consideration of the measure until his return |
