Show THE COCAIN DRUGGISTS NOT ALLOWED to SELL TO THEM 1 ii rt S number of ogden people victims of the drug Is said to bc i many the cocaine law passed by the stagg legislature went into effect this morning it provides ai penalty for the soli ing ot the poison to anyone not having a prescription by a reliable physician and further provides that a prescription shall be filled but once the law aimed to check the spread use of the drug was suggested by the state druggists association local druggists are in doubt as to the effect it will have on the evil yes berday the call for cocaine was unusually heavy but today the law Is being generally observed and this morning a number of patrons were refused it because they did no the required prescription there are many forms in which cocaine can be procured however and the desperation of the fiends when they are compelled to do without its stimulating effect will probably find a way to evade the refusal of druggists to sell them the poison it may have the effect of a reforma alon declared a druggist but there is danger that the cocaine fiend when he finds that he cannot get the drug will turn to something else probably morphine or the alkaloids of cocaine reputable druggists need no such law but stores that cater to the underworld der world and sell large quantities of cocaine will be put to heavy losses it they obey tho restriction the con of the poison is remarkable and even in ogden the names of the people addicted to its use would causa a sensation were they revealed I 1 ho police hesitate to say how tha law will work out cocaine fiends arg a source ot constant worry to the department part ment as they resort to crimes ol 01 all kinds and usually end by committing suicide it will however aid them to prevent young boys from becoming enslaved by the drug |
