Show SMALLPOX IN jt i c S A i A secir PA athi JH A wb j V EXPOSED CHILDREN AT PINGREE SCHOOL TO THE DISEASE doctor two cases of pox as baudis covered his mistake through the mistake of tho family physician in pronouncing the disease the pingree school waa exposed to smallpox last week by members of the field family who reside at no lincoln avenue while two of the children were home sick six wore in school no spread of alie disease is feared on account of the prompt action taken by the superintendent perin of schools it appears that when the field children complained a physician was sent for and after examining the spots declared the disease becoming uneasy the family tried to recall the doctor in the meantime the health officer wag summoned both doctor and officer arrived about the same time and both were of the same opinion that it was smallpox tho quarantine was promptly established but four days had intervened from tho time the doctor was first called until he again examined the children yesterday the pingree school was fumigated from basement to garret every precaution was ta ken to guard against an epidemic and on account of the stage of the disease when the flag was put out it is not expected that others will contract the disease in the pingree district the irwin family of no west thirtieth street is also afflicted aith smallpox the members of the family on whom the disease first appeared being school children on account of the similarity of chickenpox chicken pox and smallpox in its first stages the health department and doctors have determined to be more than usually vigilant in quarantining chick |
