Show UTAH SHOWS INCREASED LEAD TONNAGE During the year of 1924 Utah produced the wonderful amount of .232,000,000 pounds of lead, amounting to 14 per cent more than that of 1923's total of 203, 447,793 pounds and 70 per cent more than that of 1922, stands as the largest output made in the history of the industry. There is little doubt that Utah will retain its position as the premier silver producer of America, Am-erica, a position held for two years. Last year, when approximately approx-imately 19,500,000 ounces were marketed by Utah mines, all pre vious silver production records for any state were broken. This year's output should be approximately approxi-mately equal to that of 1923, when 17,500,000 ounces were produced. In addition to holding first rank as a silver state, the distinction dis-tinction of being the leading arsenic ar-senic producer also belongs to Utah. During 1924 more than 40,000 tons of arsenical ore, con taining an average of about 20 per cent, were turned out by the Gold Hill district alone. Local smelting companies have been active in making materials for weed and insect killers from arsenical ores. Doth the United Seates, Smelting Refining and Mining company and the American Ameri-can Smelting and Refining company com-pany own and operate properties proper-ties at Gold Hill. |
