Show Sir William 1'reccn read a tnoit inteicitlng paper before the Drills!) At oclatloc at the Biadford meeting, In which he itattd that the first experiment! In regard to wirclen telephony were made in February, 1601, ncron Loch Neil, In thelllghlsndi of Scotland. On tint occailon trials were made to determine tholawi which govern tho transmission of the Morie ilgnala by the electro magnetic method otthe wireless telegraph. Two psra-l llel wires, well earthed, were taken one on each tide ol the lake, and arrange menti were made by which the wlrri were syitomatically shortened with a view to ascertaining the minimum length necesnry to record sitli-factory sitli-factory signals. The trials show that it wai possible to exchmce speech across the loch at an average distance ot! 3mllei between the parallel wires, and the length of the wlrri themselves them-selves was reduced to 4 miles on each side of the water. The volume of telegraphic tele-graphic current wai immensely greater than that ot the telephonic current, Whenever through want of balance In a loop disturbance wai evident, telephonic croiitalk wai also evident.
