| Show By LOIS BEAUDOIN People who seek and hold offices whether they be local or even on a University level seem to be in constant danger of severe This criticism is of two Either they are not doing anything or at least not what they or they are not doing what they are doing in the right THIS PAST WEEK I have heard both of these criticisms leveled at our own student government The first criticism has been voiced by many people around They feel that our officers have not really done anything to justify their I would like to point out that our student officers have tried to initiate several new programs this Through Project they have encouraged groups on the campus to focus on pertinent national and They have provided the impetus for these groups to carry out their If the plan has not I think that it is the fault of the members of the student body who have not responded and not the fault of the officers THE OFFICERS have tried to establish a means whereby the various groups on campus can communicate with each other through the Intra-Campus Communications if the program has not it is because those groups and individuals involved have not let it succeed and not because of a lack of interest or work on the part of the Executive ONE OF THE BEST projects that the Executive Council has undertaken this year is the Human Rights This commission is set up to see that the rights of students in the community are not infringed This is where the second type of criticism has been leveled at our student When a case of discrimination against one of the foreign students on our campus was brought to the attention of these they immediately acted upon it in what many people have called a very mature They did not go out and but tried to get at the core of the matter and solve it in an adult For they are accused of acting in an irresponsible I think that criticism has its place even in the area of student but when this criticism comes whenever any move is the student government cannot be expected to act in any It is time we gave our officers a break and started encouraging the programs which they have made available to |
