Show SENT FAKE MESSAGES MESSAGE operator sentenced to one year for or defrauding oregon short line salt lake april 14 D V stewart a telegraph operator was sentenced to one year in the state prison saturday by judge george G armstrong tor for sending a counterfeit telegram over the wires of the western union company whereby ho he obtained money under false pretenses stewart pleaded guilty and waived time for sentence stewart was employed at syracuse junction utah as an operator for the oregon short une line about two months ago when he committed the crime he sent a telegram to salt lake signed by W lowery the general agent at pocatello stating that D V woods would call a the salt 1 lake ul e office for transportation to pocatello and to advance him 25 on his account stewart resigned his position the next day and came to salt lake he went to t the railroad office and asked about the telegram he represented himself as woods and the message was honored stewart boarded the train the same evening and went to Brig hain city to see his Ms sweetheart he was arrested there by detective jones of the oregon short line who traced the transportation through a conductors report |
