Show ELECTRIC LIGHTS IN OGDEN the government has issued a bulletin on electrical machinery apparatus and supplies la which a paragraph Is devoted to incandescent lamps calling attention to the latest make known as the tantalum the incandescent lamp now in use in ogden requires at least 50 watts of electrical power tor their full efficiency tot 16 candle power and they are of short life this is at the rate ot over 3 watts each hour per candlepower candle power the new lamp ot 22 candlepower consumes less than 44 watts 0 electrical power in fact averages about 15 watts per candlepower candle power and its useful life is hours the lamp though will burn as our lamps here in ogden do at a reduced efficiency for 1500 hours these figures indicate a saving in electrical energy of about one half that is to say that where a light bill is now 2 in ogden wiach the new lamp it could be reduced to 1 this is based on the belief that meters accurately cura tely record the number of watts of electrical power actually consumed and furthermore that our 10 candle power lamps continue to consume as much energy after their efficiency by deterioration in the filament is reduced 20 to 25 per cent which occurs in about hours of service the very latest lamp ia the osmium it is manufactured in germany and but few have been sold in this country the consumption Is 15 watts per candlepower candle power and the lamp will burn brightly 2000 hours it burns under a low voltage the tantalum lamp burns much better on direct than on alternating currents and Is being used only on direct current circuits in this country it would be a good idea to introduce a few of these lamps to the trade in ogden |
