| Show PETE SULLIVANS SIDE says he will fight cyclone thompson anywhere but in ogden the following letter from pete sullivan la in reply to the many assertions that he had a bad case of cold feet and was afraid to meet cyclone thompson on labor day at ogden since the fight between mantell and rube smith in ogden august 19 there have been a number of stories circulated through the papers to the effect that I 1 had cold feet and desired to back out of my engagement with cyclone thompson I 1 do not know who Is responsible for those stories but feel that it Is my duty to reply and to let the public decide as to which of us has the cold feet I 1 met rawhide kelly thompsons Thomp sons manager here in this city wednesday august 21 he asked me why I 1 would not meet ghompson in ogden tho following was my reply to him in the first place the articles of agreement which were to have governed the fight were rotten and not fit for any reputable fighter to fight by and as I 1 had looked the situation over very carefully I 1 had decided that under those conditions I 1 should in justice to the sporting public and to myself withdraw from such an agreement to fight in ogden they are framed up a little too strong for me I 1 have been in the fighting game for five years and have never been guilty of a dishonest or unfair deal I 1 have taken them on as they came to me and have never tried to sidestep a good fight tor an easy mark I 1 want to be honest I 1 want to give the people a run for their money I 1 wish to say just here that I 1 would be glad to meet the cyclone fighter again any place choose bar ogden and if I 1 dont I 1 shall not accept any money but will turn my share over to some charitable institution with regard to one of the stories published in the dally papers where it is claimed 1 was guaranteed provided I 1 meet cyclone thompson in ogden labor day I 1 v say that no security whatsoever was offered tor the purse or any specified amount except rawhide kellys word it will take a better man than cyclone thompson to make me back up and if we can get together again I 1 shall without doubt settle all dispute between us if they mean business let thorn get down to honest and straightforward business principles and I 1 will meet them more than halt way get busy produce the goods or lay down do anything but dont be a knocker I 1 am sincerely ours signed PETER P SULLIVAN |
