Show ANIMA LAST sacred heart entertainment a success students exhibit marked ability and show careful instruction most enjoyable evening the entertainment at the sacred heart night was one of the most enjoyable musical and literary treats of the season whenever the sisters of the academy pre pire a program and train the personnel the public are delighted and by a generous attendance though the attendance last evening was not as large as the merits of the attraction deserved yet when the curtain rose on the first number was an expectant audience which comfortably fort ably filled the body of the large hall the entertainment was in reality one given in honor of the illustrious and only washington the father of our country the human ideal of all aej it was therefore fitting that the program throughout should breathe with patriotic sentiment the first number was a tableau the living flag and goddess of liberty the picture which was revealed as the curtain rose was indeed one over the center of the curtain hung a portrait of george washington tastefully draped while suspended on the rear wall of the stage was a re splenda nt star on which were inscribed in glittering characters utah the forty fifty star while from right to center and from center to left were tastefully grouped draped in colors red white and blue with the glorious stars shining out a bevy of beautiful young girls from childhoods springtide to the of young womanhood while in the center resplendent ant holding a staff of the colors stood miss II 11 the goddess of liberty the charming personnel of the misses L farmer A kenney and K farmer next came an interesting and instructive from music to u glimpse into the realm of literature and the histrionic drama the shades of Shake women miss cassin read with delightful feeling the prologue which gave an idea of the treat which was to follow and for fifteen minutes the rapt listeners were led into taft lori oua past when the bard of bards lived and the women whom his genius has made binous it not by the outer world of letters lived once again miranda and the little fairy ariel the life of tempest Tem yest were admirably represented by miss houtz and little maud agler then again did dortia alie daughter of shylock in tho merchant of venice live in the admirably delivered lines of miss aullen misa mcgonagle McGona glo breathed forth the plain tings of juliet and her love her more that human passion for romeo king leara youngest daughter cordelia assumed new charma and tenderness in the skillful hands of miss E kiesel again waa the brokenhearted broken hearted demented ophell brought vividly to mind by the thoughtful interpretation of misa barratt while represented by miss casein make all bewail the cruelty of jealousy and lament tho fata meted out by the black othello henry the eights unhappy wife catherine of arragon and lady macbeth Mac both living over again the horrors of a crime the creature of ambition most excellently portrayed by miss Hu laniski and miss carnahan Afi erthle literary treat followed an exquisite duet by balfe entitled trust her not sung by the misses barratt and Hu laniski accompanied on the piano by miss houtz A delightful quintette followed by the misses L farmer and V cassin mandolins K fitzgerald and guitars and maud agler banjo then the choral class accompanied by harps and violins eang with wonderful precision come and join the merry dance the blending of the voices showed great skill and alie effect was most pleasing the choral class is composed 0 the follow ing young was the music that before its conclusion half the audience were tapping their leet in time to the rhythmic movement then came the literary treat of the evening the original drama anima in three acta and two tableaux A great deal of had been taken by the sisters in the construction and presentation of this work and the result should fully compensate them and those who dented the several characters
