Show I 1 HIE fur the belaj in opening th K ciTati CHICAGO nov 15 A meeting wag hed today to day at the army headquarters of the sioux commission appointed by the president to treat with the sioux indiana for the opening of their reservation in order to prepare their final report referring to charges of unnecessary delay in the opening of the sioux reservation er which of late have been frequent doberti Ko berti aide de camp to general creole stated that the delay was entirely unavoidable and was duo to a decision of the president that owing to the contradictory phraseology of the tw 0 acts of congress passed at last bession ees sion it would be necessary for congress to act on the report of the sioux commission before the land could be opened for bettle general crook in answering charges that beliy in opening the reservation viah due to the fact of a which he had made to the indians to induce them to cedo the territory and which had not been fulfilled said 1 I may eay that neither I 1 nor any member of the commission made any promise euch M redress of grievances and the like that we were not am ply able to carry out and which will not be carried out to the letter there nera some small grievances which we could not from their nature pledge ourselves personally or officially to have redressed but upon our promise to represent in as favorable a light as possible at washington the chiefs expressed themselves as perfectly satisfied the commission will continue in bession for several days engaged in drawing up this report but ft will not in made public until after it has pai ed through the usual departmental which will occupy from one to two weeks |
